Montreux from a Different Perspective
Hike to Le Grammont – Panoramic Adventure Above Lake Geneva
Service Description
Set off on one of the most breathtaking hikes in the entire Lake Geneva region. Our journey to Le Grammont (2,172 m) begins with a scenic public-transport ride from Montreux into the mountains above the Rhône Valley, bringing us to the quiet village of Miex, where forests, cliffs, and alpine meadows create the perfect backdrop for a full day in nature. From the very first steps, the trail carries you deep into a landscape that feels far removed from the rhythm of the Swiss Riviera below. The path leads steadily upward through peaceful woodland before opening into the wide alpine basin of Lac de Taney. With its milky-blue water, wooden chalets, and mountain cliffs rising on all sides, Taney is one of Switzerland’s hidden gems — a place where time seems to slow and the silence of the mountains takes over. We pause here to enjoy the scenery and prepare for the ascent to come. From the lake, the trail continues across alpine pastures and rocky terraces, each turn offering broader views over the Rhône Valley behind us. The climb is steady and rewarding, with the landscape becoming more dramatic as we gain elevation. Higher up, the mountain reveals its wilder side — shaped by wind, snow, and steep rock — and the final approach builds anticipation as Lake Geneva remains hidden until the last few metres. Reaching the summit of Le Grammont is a moment like no other. Suddenly, the entire Lake Geneva basin opens beneath your feet: the shimmering mirror of the lake, the famous terraced vineyards of Lavaux, the curve of the Riviera towns, and the jagged Alps stretching into the distance. This is one of the most impressive viewpoints anywhere in western Switzerland, offering a panorama that feels both immense and intimate. The descent follows a quieter, more secluded trail that winds through dense southern forest, giving the hike a sense of discovery and solitude. By the time we return to Miex, you’ll feel the satisfaction of completing a true alpine adventure — one that combines lakes, forests, meadows, ridgelines, and unforgettable views.
